Summary


A tornado roared through Severna Park and Pasasdena Thursday night, damaging homes, downing trees and leaving thousands of county residents without power.

National Weather Service officials yesterday determined the twister touched down just after 6:30 p.m. in Severna Park and worked through part of Pasadena before dissipating. At its peak, the tornado was 250 yards wide and had winds of 90 mph, making it an F1 on the Fujita scale.

Much of the damage was along North Drive in Severna Park, as well as Cattail Creek and the Magothy River near the Stewart's Landing community.

Pam Jordan, a county public works spokesman, said the twister damaged 32 homes, leaving 12 uninhabitable. Nearly 10,000 BGE customers were out of power during the height of the storm. ...
