Talent Program Changes Are Opportunities

Summary


There has been considerable public comment since the announcement of the restructuring of our elementary school Talent Development program last week, with some of the consternation resulting from the assumption that the change will result in a "dumbing down" of the curriculum and fewer opportunities for students.

To the contrary, this change is intended to provide more advanced learning opportunities for elementary students at all levels, including those currently in our Talent Development programs. Quite simply, the program as it currently exists does not reach as many children as I believe we should be reaching, and does not provide the breadth and depth of instruction I believe we should be providing.
