CATONSVILLE - It was a frigid day in early March when the Severna Park High School boys lacrosse team marched up to the team's practice field in a two-line formation for the first day of tryouts. An unknown coach had just taken over the program the day before and one of the team's leading attackers from the previous season was out with an alarming head injury.

A look of uncertainty dominated most of the players' faces as they tried to block out the evident adversity and focus on lacrosse.
