He was cantankerous and irascible, and took everything personally. He was a demanding boss and sometimes a near-impossible colleague. He wanted things done his way - immediately.
He was defiantly politically incorrect, and an unpolished public speaker. He never let polls or consultants influence his views, his priorities or his approach. When he wanted publicity, he dressed up in a bizarre outfit and did something silly.
