Our Say: Psc's Latest Decision Shows Why Special Session Is Needed

Summary


Last week's decision by the Public Service Commission to implement a flawed rate plan for Baltimore Gas and Electric shows a clear bias against the ratepayers and toward enriching the utility and its executives. The decision left no alternative but for General Assembly leaders to call for a special session - and the first order of business should be to reconstitute the inept PSC.

It doesn't matter to us who gets the credit for the special session - Gov. Robert Ehrlich preempted the Democrats by ordering them back to Annapolis - as long as something gets accomplished. We hope it isn't more hot air. What shouldn't be lost to consumers is that the session is needed because the PSC has failed to control this 72 percent rate hike and conduct adequate hearings from the very start.
