Prep Notes: It's Time for Schools to Settle Private Matter

Summary


The battle between the Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association, which in conjunction with the Maryland State Department of Education has created "Standards of Interscholastic Athletic Competition," and the private schools' governing bodies, the Maryland Interscholastic Athletic Association for boys sports and the Interscholastic Athletic Association of Maryland for girls sports, should be settled as soon as possible.

As written, the "standards" could sever ties between the public and private schools. That would mean Severn and Severna Park could not continue their field hockey rivalry; Annapolis and St. Mary's could not continue their lacrosse rivalry; and Old Mill and Mount St. Joseph of Baltimore could not have their annual wrestling competitions.
