Cecil County guide Mike Benjamin reeled in and released what could be the first striper in the budding catch-and-release season up on the Susquehanna Flats, which really wasn't a surprise. What was a surprise was the small blue crab he picked up from the Elk River at Elk River State Park.

You read that right; a crab in several inches of water as he walked the shoreline checking out the yellow perch situation. "It wasn't very fast, it was kind of slow," said Mike, "but there it was." His rockfish was only of 19 inches; water temperatures on the Flats were 38 degrees, but he found a pocket where the thermometer rose to 45.2. Underwater visibility is about a foot to 18 inches.
