Music Box: Creative Duo the White Stripes Unleash Emotion

Sturm and Drang was a revolutionary movement of 18th century German writers and musicians. The idea was for extremes of emotion to be unleashed in response to the constricting rationalism imposed by "the Enlightenment." The words Sturm and Drang loosely mean "storm and stress," "storm and urge," or "storm and longing."

History repeats itself. The White Stripes - my first Pick of the Week - are a study in duality: him and her, guitar and drums, inhaling and exhaling, maybe right and could be wrong, inflation and deflation. Listen to their music, you'll most certainly hear what I say is truth. This is the way it has to be. When the room gets cluttered, the simplicity gets buried. There's nowhere left to read between the lines. But with two there is room for a lot more, room for imagination.
