Competition from neighboring grocery stores, increased traffic along Fort Smallwood Road and the state's high cigarette tax forced the Lucky's Superettes convenience store in Pasadena to close last week after 30 years of business.
Charles "Bucky" Lynch said the Pasadena store - the only one of eight in the county to close - shut its doors Oct. 3 after revenues dropped to $18,000 per week, a result of residents migrating to the Mars and Lauer's supermarkets nearby.
