Recent polls have shown public support for fees and taxes that go toward cleaning up the Chesapeake Bay. So, it is not surprising that both county and state government have proposed ways to tap that generosity.
Environmentalists and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation want a "green fund" fee applied to all property owners across the state. That fee - 1 cent for every square foot of existing impervious surface - would collect about $85 million a year. The money would be divvied up among stormwater controls, farm runoff prevention and restoration of wetlands, forests and oysters.See the full content of this document
