The Kings of Leon and the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club doublebill at the 9:30 Club is sold out for two nights. But I think you can still get tickets for the same show - my first Pick of the Week - at Rams Head Live! in Baltimore this Wednesday night (7 p.m. doors, all ages).

Kings of Leon opened on tour for U2 and, later, Bob Dylan. Since then listeners have come to appreciate their brand of southern garage rock. The Kings of Leon sound isn't derivative of the twin guitar driven blues and boogie bands usually associated with the genre. These guys have a modern sound with a forceful edge surrounding some catchy hooks.

Kings of Leon Team Up with Black Rebel Motorcycle Club

The family band is made up of three brothers and a second cousin and they all seem to write songs. Their new album is called "Because of the Times." Most bands that tour with Bob Dylan are lucky to every meet the man.

"On the last night of the Dylan tour," says Caleb Followill, "Dylan came into our dressing room and he says (here Caleb affects Dylan's husky rasp:) 'What's that last song you guys played?' And I said, 'Uh, it's called 'Trani' (a little ditty about transvestite hookers from the first album). And Dylan goes, 'That's a hell of a song.' "I think that was pretty much the biggest thrill of my entire life."
