THE CHURCH: Founded in 1935, Marley United Methodist Church, 30 Marley Neck Road, is like many traditional churches in the 21st century: an aging, diminishing congregation. This is a concern to its pastor, the Rev. Stephanie Bekhor, but not so much for her flock. "I have brought it up to the church council, and they are not as concerned as about it." She is buoyed by their dedication. "It's an aging membership, but there is a great spirit of community, a great energy."

What she calls "the small church with the big heart" has about 85 members, a large percentage of whom are actively involved in its fall festival and other outreach events, health programs and with the Arundel House of Hope Winter Relief homeless shelter program. They are also active in their worship, said the Rev. Bekhor, "MUMC has good, meaningful worship, with the people participating actively - listening, singing and laughing. What we do, we do really well. That is satisfying."
