Summary


With temperatures School's out, temperatures are soaring and kids are spending almost all of their time outdoors.

But whether children are playing at the pool, participating in summer sports or involved in an outdoor summer camp, staying outside for long periods of time in hot weather could put children at risk for heat exhaustion and other heat-related illnesses. During the summer months, children are more prone to dehydration than in any other season. And when children are dehydrated, the body's cooling system shuts down leaving them at a heightened risk for heat exhaustion. When the body is no longer able to cool down by producing perspiration, it overheats and causes heat exhaustion or heat illness.
