Summary


As a nation we find that we are in turmoil with many Americans rebelling against their government. Fortunately, today that rebellion plays itself out in peaceful protests in cities and towns across America where events known as "Tea Parties" are being held to protest out of control government spending and taxation. I say fortunately because in years gone by similar protests were not so peaceful.

In Annapolis in 1774, one year after the Boston Tea Party, the brigantine Peggy Stewart arrived at the port of Annapolis on Oct. 14. The ship was loaded with a cargo of tea subject to tax under England's Stamp Act. Co-owner Anthony Stewart paid the "tea tax," which violated the will of colonists at that time.
