Bay Foundation Offers Oyster Garden Workshops

Summary

The Chesapeake Bay Foundation is offering a series of oyster gardening workshops in Annapolis, which provide citizens with access to shoreline piers the tools they need to raise juvenile oysters that will be planted in oyster sanctuaries when they mature.

Oysters are the Chesapeake Bay's best natural filters, as an adult oyster can filter up to 50 gallons of water a day. They also provide essential habitat for fish and other Bay creatures. Today's oyster population is estimated at only two percent of historic levels.
