When I was comparing Medicare Part D plans on the Internet, I noticed that there was a list of preferred pharmacies I could look at. What does that designation mean?

A preferred pharmacy is a network pharmacy that offers covered drugs to plan members at lower out-of-pocket costs than if a member shopped at a nonpreferred network pharmacy. A nonpreferred pharmacy is still in the network, but covered drugs will probably be offered at a higher out-of-pocket cost to the Medicare beneficiary.
