Summary
Physics, Environmental Science, Art History, European History, Calculus, English Literature and Language: These are just a few of the Advanced Placement classes that students have opted to take this year. The reason is the more A.P. classes students take, the better it will look to colleges. While this is true, the fact remains that the increased workload has many students experiencing extreme stress, which can lead to unexpected consequences.
Anthony Martin, a junior at Glen Burnie High School who takes six A.P. classes explained, "Sometimes I can't sleep because I get worried about how I will do on my Statistics test the next day." The same holds true for many students in his position. In addition to sleep disorders, researchers have found that stress can cause or aggravate high blood pressure, migraines, headaches, eating problems, asthma and allergies. But these effects aren't just temporary. In fact, it has been proven that the impact of stress early in life can have long-lasting effects and even make the body more sensitive to future stressors, especially in the heart and blood vessels.See the full content of this document
