Summary
Gary Burton, along with Bobby Hutcherson, reinvented the vibraphone for '60s post-bop. Mr. Burton pioneered a pianistic approach, employing four mallets (rather than two), playing chords that encircled his improvisations in a swirl of pastel harmony.
