Mariah Newport, a fifth-grader at Marley Elementary School, was recently awarded a $1,000 college scholarship from the Carson Scholars Fund.
The fund was founded by Dr. Benjamin Carson, a pediatric neurosurgeon at Johns Hopkins Hospital, and his wife, Candy.
