Away We Go: Museums Showcase French Drawings

Summary


Beginning June 19, a very special exhibition will be open to view in Baltimore: "The Essence of Line: French Drawings from Ingres to Degas." While the wonderful display will be unique in its own right - rarely seen drawings and watercolors created by some of the most influential French artists of the 19th century - this not-to-be- missed installation will be like no other because it will take place at both the Walters Art Museum and the Baltimore Museum of Art.

From revealing preparatory sketches to magnificent finished works, this joint venture between the two facilities - spotlighting approximately 150 pieces by artists such as Degas, Delacroix, Daumier, Ingres, Fantin-Latour, Renoir, Cezanne and Meissonier - will survey an astonishing range of French art produced over the course of a century of innovation.
