CURTIS BAY - The Coast Guard petty officer who rescued a 5-year- old girl from a car accident in March received an award for his heroism this week.

U.S. Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Maryland, chairman of the House subcommittee on Coast Guard and maritime transportation, and Admr. Thad Allen, commandant of the U.S. Coast Guard, awarded the Coast Guard Medal to Electricians Mate First Class Lavelas Luckey Wednesday at the Coast Guard Surface Forces Logistics Center in Glen Burnie.
