GLEN BURNIE - Six people were forced from their home in the Sun Valley neighborhood Thursday after an extension cord connected to an air-conditioner overloaded and started a fire, county firefighters said.

Shortly before 7 p.m., county fire received a report about a dwelling fire in the 300 block of New Jersey Ave. N.E. There was smoke coming from the two-story, single-family dwelling and firefighters did an interior attack, Division Chief Michael Cox said.

It took 25 firefighters 15 minutes to bring it under control and it caused $75,000 in damage. The cause of the fire was accidental and stemmed from an electrical malfunction. Cox said the extension cord overheated.
